A 'Stone of the Earth' - Peanut wood, a form of Petrified Wood, is fossilised wood that had its organic matter replaced by a silicate such as Quartz. Its name is derived from the Greek term “Petro”, which means “wood turned into stone”. Peanut Wood however, is a very special form of Petrified Wood. Millions of years ago, it was swept into the depths of the ocean, where it was washed and tumbled into something resembling driftwood. Attacked in the ocean by fish known as Teredo, tiny bore holes and tunnels were carved into the wood. This caused it to absorb water, making it sink to the bottom of the ocean where it became filled with a light in colour sediment. As time progressed, it became covered with various layers until eventually the petrification process began.

Spiritually, Petrified Wood is a wonderfully grounding stone that inspires growth and new beginnings in all areas of life. It gently pulls us into alignment, keeping us balanced with our heads held high. It solidifies our connection to Mother Earth and is an excellent stone for the strengthening of ancestral connections. It encourages us to relax and embrace change, reminding us to release stress and enjoy the moment. Petrified Wood is attuned to the Root Chakra and is connected to the Element of Earth.

In terms of the physical body, Petrified Wood is one of the best stones for stabilising overall health. It calms the nervous system whilst stimulating the metabolism and is also believed to have positive cleansing effects on the liver and gallbladder. It is often used to strengthen the back and is said to be particularly supportive in the alignment of the skeletal system.
