A stone of rest - Hypersthene is a rock-forming mineral composed of Iron Silicate and Magnesium. Its name is derived from the Greek words “hyper” and “stonos”, meaning above and power. When these two words are combined, their resultant meaning becomes “over strength”. This deep brown stone is usually edged with shining lighter hues. Some specimens are lighter, where others are as dark as black. You can even find this majestic stone in shades of black-green. A rare few specimens have shown a coppery red patina, caused by flat inclusions of Goethite and Hematite. Hypersthene is admired for its unusual optical feature that shows a different colour from each different direction of viewing the stone. The appearance of this stone thus depends on the angle that you are viewing it from. This unique physical property makes Hypersthene easily identifiable between other prism-like crystals.
Hypersthene is celebrated for its deeply rejuvenating and calming energy, crucial for those recovering from burnout, illness or severe fatigue. It forms an amulet of protection around the aura, giving users a sense of being hidden away from the world in order to reach a state of deep and undisturbed rest. It is believed to be particularly helpful for those suffering from sleeping disorders such as insomnia. It supports the body in reaching deeper levels of sleep for longer periods of time, rejuvenating and restoring it from severe exhaustion.
Regarded as a highly protective stone - Hypersthene is known to restore the mind to a place of calmness and peace. It shields us, creating a soothing velvety shelter from outside stimuli. When the “noise” of everyday life is cancelled out, we are better able to gather our thoughts. This results in clear thinking, inspiring us to find innovative solutions to our problems. It strongly resonates with the base, solar plexus, crown and throat chakras and is said to boost self-esteem without advocating ego.
Hypesthene’s grounding, shielding and calming abilities make it an excellent stone for profound meditation and inner work. It supports the exploration of other dimensions of mindfulness, thus enabling us to break free from physical and psychological confinements. It enhances intuition as its vibrations affect the entire auric field.
Hypersthene is rich in healing properties. It contains Iron and Magnesium, and is said to alleviate blood-related conditions such as anaemia and leukaemia. It is also believed to relieve issues relating to the stomach, ovaries, prostate and pituitary gland. Its healing properties are also known to support the gut.
Hypersthene is found in various parts of the world, mainly in the regions of the United States, Canada, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, and Greenland. Other countries where this semi-precious gemstone is found are New Zealand and Australia.
