A stone of creativity and innovation - Chalcopyrite (also known as Peacock Ore) is a colourful sparkling stone that is composed out of Copper Iron Sulfide and an ore of Copper. Its beautiful iridescent colours are the result of the oxidation of the crystal's surface. This beautiful Copper Iron Sulfide mineral was first discovered in 1725 by J.F Henckel. Its name is derived from the Greek words for "Copper" and "Brass" and it most commonly occurs in shades of yellow, grey and green. When Chalcopyrite is exposed to acid, something quite magical happens. Its colour transforms into rainbow-like hues of vivid purple, blue, violet and yellow. Acid treated versions of Chalcopyrite is commonly referred to as "Peacock Ore", but be sure not to confuse this with Bornite, which is also known as "Peacock Ore" and naturally tarnishes to these colours.
